Family STEM Challenge Family STEM Challenge

Summer

As part of our STEM Program and family engagement at Austin Elementary School, we would like to invite families to participate in a fun, engaging, and non-mandatory STEM activity to complete once a month. The activity would aim to involve members of your family group and would use simple and common materials found around your house. You will not need to purchase any additional materials.

This summer, please help Kelly Ridenhour, an ecology graduate researcher from UGA to collect data on fireflies in Atlanta. The Atlanta Firefly Project is a community initiative that assists researchers in studying firefly conservation in Atlanta. You can help from your home.  All it takes is a commitment to monitor outside your home two evenings in June and two evenings in July during the summer and submit information using their entry form documenting whether you see fireflies. wifi Complimentary Internet Offer from Comcast
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, we are putting in place two substantial program enhancements to help these families deal with this crisis. Click here for all details.
  • We will make it even easier for low-income families who live in a Comcast service area to sign up by offering new customers 60 days of complimentary Internet Essentials service, which is normally available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month.
  • Also, we are increasing Internet speeds for the Internet Essentials service from 15/2 Mbps to 25/3 Mbps for all new and existing customers, which will be the speed of the service going forward. In this way, we will ensure that Internet Essentials customers will be able to use their Internet service for all their increased needs as a result of this health crisis.

Celebrate Austin Elementary Announced as 2018 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence

This award acknowledges that Austin is successful in many more ways than just high test scores. We provide opportunities for students to grow socially and emotionally also.  We are grateful for partnerships with our parents and community and realize that only by working together are we able to help our students reach their fullest potential.  Congratulations to our students, parents, and faculty for one of the most prestigious awards in education a school can earn!
