As part of our STEM Program and family engagement at Austin Elementary School, we would like to invite families to participate in a fun, engaging, and non-mandatory STEM activity to complete once a month. The activity would aim to involve members of your family group and would use simple and common materials found around your house. You will not need to purchase any additional materials.
In our March STEM Challenge, you are going to design and build a car that moves by wind power. You may use only recycled materials or items already in your house. Examples of items are cardboard, construction paper, cardstock, glue, Duct tape, masking tape, straws, bottle caps, Life Savers Candy, etc. You are not permitted to use Legos, K’nex, or toy cars. Do not forget that you will need tools to complete your design! You may use kid-friendly scissors and a ruler or tape measure. Your final design must travel a distance of at least 4 feet. The car must move by wind (blowing, hair dryer, fan, etc.). Cars must be made of recycled materials or items you can find at home. When you complete your STEM Challenge, submit your photos/videos to this Google Form or you can submit your creation to the Flipgrid site to be featured in our weekly announcements
