The 5th grade Math currculum is challenging and fast-paced. Students will explore place value, order of operations, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing fractions and decimals, percents, problem-solving, geometry and algebra.  We will use a variety of strategies to cover these topics.

Homework:  Students will have nightly homework to practice and reinforce skills. Students should complete homework independently with minimum parental assistance.  If students have trouble, please stop and initial their homework at the stopping point.  If they work for 30 minutes, please do the same. Working to or beyond their frustation point is not beneficial for anyone!  Sudents should attend help sessions from 7:00-7:30 each Wednesday morning for additional practice.

Facts Practice!  Since everything in Math is based on the four basic operations, please have your child complete weekly Facts Practice.  They should practice a minimum of 40 minutes per week.  Try to utilize a variety of ways to practice - computer, flash cards, drills, etc.  Students should complete the Facts Practice log and parents should initial their sheet.  These are due on Monday mornings and count as a homework grade.
