Monthly Reading Requirements
Students will be required to read at least one chapter book each month. They will be allowed time during school to read the book and will also be expected to read the book at home.
Of all the activities in which children engage outside of school, time spent reading is the best predictor of overall academic achievement. Therefore, reading additional books over the course of the month will be highly encouraged.
Students may obtain their books from Austin's media center, public libraries, book stores, or home collections. Parents and students should use their best judgment in determining the appropriate length and readability of the books; students will be trained in class to select "Just Right" books.
