A Little About Myself
I was born in Atlanta and I grew up in Dunwoody.  I attended the old Dunwoody Elementary (which is now the Dunwoody Library) and graduated from Dunwoody High School. I received my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of Georgia.  After Graduating, I started teaching second grade. While teaching, I completed my Masters Degree at Georgia State.  I got married and moved to Gwinnett County where I taught first grade.  Then my two precious boys came along.  I was a stay at home mom for years. When our youngest child turned three, I decided to go back to teaching part time and became a teacher at Dunwoody Baptist Preschool.  Now that our boys are older, I am teaching full time again. Andrew (11th grade) is being homeschooled and Caleb starts his sophomore year at The University of North Georgia in Dahlonega.  In my spare time I like spending time with my family and walking!

About Second Grade
Second grade is such an exciting year!  It is a year of change and new beginnings, new surroundings, new friends, new experiences, new challenges, and new skills.  Many exciting and interesting things have been planned for this year.  It should be a fun-filled, rewarding year for you and your child.

This year students will transition from learning to read to reading to learn.  There will be an emphasis on fluency and comprehension. This will require a firm grip on phonics. As students master these techniques, they will begin to read longer more complex texts.

Writing will become more independent. Students will learn to edit and revise their texts. They will learn grammar strategies.  They will use these strategies to add more details and descriptive words to stories.

I know you will be very pleased to see the growth in all areas of your child's educational career.  If you ever have any questions about the material covered, please contact me and I will be happy to clarify the information for you.
