Second grade is such an exciting year, and I am so happy that I will get to know you this year. This will be a year of change and new beginnings, new surroundings, new friends, new experiences, new challenges, and new skills. We have many exciting and interesting things planned for this year. It should be a fun-filled, rewarding year for you and your child!
Second graders begin a transition from learning to read to reading to learn. They begin to read more fluently. Having a firmer grasp on phonics, second graders begin more complex word studies. They begin to read longer, more complex texts, including chapter books. They continue to read every day and have books read to them.
Writing becomes more independent for second graders, and they become much more conscientious about editing and revising their work. Second graders begin to use grammar strategies to improve their writing and add “juicy details” to their stories.
I know you will be very pleased to see the growth in all areas of your child’s educational career. If you ever have any questions about material covered in class or sent home, please contact me, and I will be happy to clarify the information for you.
